Goodbye Yellow Brick Road?

.

Poof! Someone somewhere presses a button and everything changes...

I am not even a huge Elton John Fan but to mark these potentially significant occasions I have chosen his words twice now. I cannot Imagine why this would be, so, I looked him up on wikipedia and found EJ's life and career to be a wild ride through the full spectrum of experience.
.
This has also been the case for me with the Jericho community. It has been a truly wild ride and I am drained by it all to the point of no longer feeling much of anything.
.
Simply stated, this is a now journey that for me has reached a natural conclusion. I admit I stubbornly held onto my vision for our cause longer than perhaps I should have. Truth be told it was never my vision that mattered. All that really matters, in my estimation, is that despite the constant nagging evidence of our fragile and individual humanity we changed the world as though we were one.

Tero If this is goodbye I will miss reading your blog and learning from your wisdom. I hope that after a break you return to write. I always enjoyed reading your blog even when it wasn't about Jericho. I wish you a happy Thanksgiving and a Blessed Christmas.

Hi Debby.

I am not shutting down this site and nor will I limit my posts. Henceforth, if the mood strikes me to post, I will do so. But on this occasion, when it appears CBS has stuck it to us one more time, I felt the need to acknowledge that they can no longer hurt me. I felt a split between myself and the Jericho movement months ago. I tried to communicate it and truthfully found that for the most part my opinion was unpopular. This is the nature of groups. Some are in and some are out. I have no hard feelings and I fully understand why people want to believe in the human side of the Jericho experience. They want to believe that Skeet would dash back to play Jake at a moments notice and that Carol Barbee would never allow the networks to push us around. Unfortunately this simply is not the workplace these Jericho friends find themselves living in. We have approached this from the perspective of fans; amazed and astounded by the giving we have experienced but we have become unwilling to accept any limits from people who have limitations built in to their job. I think it is safe to say that everyone involved has tried to be good to one another. Everyone except the network and did we really expect anything different from them? Did we really think that the corporation who used us for PR when it was convenient and then turned around and covertly cancelled Jericho again at 5 PM on a Friday would not wait until Message board attendance were down and Jericho was largely forgotten to pull the plug. It makes perfect sense. I cannot remember who told us that we would receive some notice before the board was shut down but I am sure they were told that by someone at the network. The rules are simply different in the world these people live in. Everything is subject to change based on the all mighty dollar and what is best for the future of the business.

As for the actors, these folks live in a world where goodbyes are often skipped and where cancellation of a series means that tomorrow you will be auditioning again. Often they do not even see the axe coming. Take for example the character of Hahn on Grey’s Anatomy. One week she is a prominent character on the show involved in a serious story arc and the next she is gone with no explanation. Our own Gale Green experienced a similar scenario. When I was in Drama school we called them cuts. People were cut from the program. Hahn Was cut from the show. Cuts are a part of their world. Our teachers made no bones about the concept that Drama College was a microcosm of the business at large. They encouraged us to see ourselves as a commodity and they encouraged us to be resilient and get used to being rejected. This inside knowledge was something I felt it was my duty to communicate to the Jericho Community. I did so often all too aware that I was raining on the parade.

Thanks for all you have done for the community as well. And thank you for continuing to read my ramblings.

Apocalyptically yours -b
