Food for Thought poll
.
Accusations have been made of indecency fouling the waters of the CBS Jericho Message Board. In the interest of introspection I have authored a poll with a few questions to see just how many of us are truly wrestling with this issue. The poll is HERE. -02/03/08

CBS Jericho Site Gets Major Facelift
.
Jericho season 2 is coming fast and CBS is cleaning house for the party! The controversial Meebo chatroom has been removed and the main Jericho page has been completely reworked. The new Jericho homepage is a less dramatic interface which frankly, is much cleaner and seems to hold a heck of a lot more content. Videos feature prominently with an extensive season 2 preview section. 13 of the 22 first season episodes are linked to in well laid out and inviting thumbnail images. There is a featured fans section which sports the avatar of the fans they spotlight and a link to a thread where the fan can be found. 8 recommended forum threads grace the box below that. And at the very bottom of the page is a Town of Jericho gallery which contains various slideshows of the town, its residents and the first season episodes. (If you are reading this Web Team the button for the residents slideshow presently takes one to the town slideshow)

This is such an encouraging development for Jericho. To think that the network has decided to re-commit and allocate money for their Jericho site only says to me they are expecting a substantial influx of new fans. Early reviews for the first three episodes are extremely positive and the excitement surrounding the show throughout the web is palpable. -01/31/07

JLA Exposé
.
Fan fiction meets fantasy; that’s part of what I found as I turned or rather clicked through the web pages of the Jake Lusters Anonymous thread on the CBS message board. I also found something else which I will expose soon enough. First let’s eavesdrop a bit.

Nita 28 writes:

“Later that evening I joined jake over at Baileys. He had taken a bit of a nap out on the Patio. So he was well recharged when I joined him, Mary closed early but Jake and I, on his lap of course, were still on the Patio. Mary made my special drinks before she left. And that's where we stayed all night.”

Pretty tame so far but then:

“we did indulge in heavy lovemaking. Cause what I had told him seemed to arouse him greatly and he wanted to take good advantage of our time.”

Well, I think we have just about reached the erotic heights of a light romance novel, the kind that any eight year old could buy from a drug store. (I read “Forever” when I was ten) Now, I am not saying that some folks might not find this offensive but what does anyone expect on a thread called Jake Luster’s Anonymous?

Another criticism I have heard of the JLA is their adoption of Chocofishie’s reworking of the Serenity prayer for the clubs, that’s right I said clubs, purposes. In the interest of full disclosure I should first say that I served with Chocofishie back in Camp Passion which in and of itself sounds dirty. That’s part of the fun of language. Double entendre and repurposing old texts to suit your needs is just a fact of American life. From Groucho Marx to Madonna we have been buying and selling sex since the countrie’s inception. Blues Music’s roots run raunchy and for that matter so do Bug’s Bunnies. “Size matters not!” say’s Yoda but try telling that to the kid who cannot get on the Tilt-A-Whirl because of his size. (You thought I was going to say something dirty didn’t you?)

Alcoholics Anonymous repurposed the Serenity Prayer long before the JLA and sexy stars reside in Jericho for a reason. The ogle factor is part of it. I promised earlier I would tell you what else I found on the JLA thread. I found a Sisterhood. Perhaps not a Ya Ya but definitely a Ga Ga Sisterhood. These gals are Ga Ga over Jake and whether some folks like it or not their Jake Lust went a long way toward saving Jericho.
.
Not to mention their intelligence, perseverance and power.
.
Thank you ladies of the JLA. -01/30/08

Every Digg Counts?
.

I started a page on the Junction called Every Digg Counts a couple of weeks ago. I posted about it on the CBS boards. In that thread I made the following plea to all Jericho fans:

“I think the time has come for me to make a plea for unity on the fronts of Digging and Hey Nielsen. Digg and HN are two sites where results completely depend on our strength in numbers. I implore you, let's support one another with our Diggs, Comments and Opinions once again as we take the viewers by the hand and lead them into season two.”

I redoubled my efforts on HN after this. My contributions were not earth shattering but I made sure I got there everyday. I stood side by side with many of you in the fandom and attempted to push our show up in the rankings. I put aside my personal feelings in many cases and added my hands to the work. I did this not to be a hero but in order to not be a hypocrite. Now I have begun to feel that I am aiding and abetting hypocrites. There are those among us who say their main focus is the show but take every opportunity to push their own personal agendas. This one accuses that one of having no objectivity. To this I say “Give me a break!”

The Star Wars on the CBS board, whereby threads which seem to be perfectly civil and engaging to many fans are rated as One Star, are not fueled by objectivity. They are perpetrated by people who think they can invisibly make a statement and this practice undermines the good will on the board. These actions are not objective. We (as a fandom) are appalled by the concept that digg users who are un-friendly to Jericho may be burying our stories and yet we are doing the very same thing to our own.

The ambulance chasing mentality which drives the post counts way up on contentious threads at CBS is more evidence of our lack of objectivity. I am guilty of multiple views myself. Those multiple views are how I know I have difference of opinion to overcome in the first place.

The bottom line here is I no longer ask for anyone to put aside differences to secure a third season of Jericho. I now think the only healthy way forward is for folks to let their conscience guide them. This may mean that there are some differences which cannot be overcome. So be it. I will continue to add links to the Every Digg Counts page until the 12th as I said I would.-01/27/08

Watch Jerichochannel!
.
Sniper101 recently took over the site Jerichochannel.tv from Rabs who found less time to work with it then expected . Rather than let the site sit dormant Rabs offered it up for adoption. Sniper agreed to take it on and together with Jericho friends Kestral, Mister Cosmic and perhaps others have put a lot of work into adding videos, picture albums and embellishing the theme Rabs laid out before them. The result is a vibrant Jericho video site! This is a great place to direct folks who are new to the show so they can further explore the world of Jericho.-01/26/08

Keeping Track
.
Someone claiming to be a member of the Jericho cast or crew posted this on a popular social networking site last night. I am not sure the details need to be brought to light but the message is important so I will re-post it here. I have removed one paragraph, which undoubtedly would have proven to identify the parties involved, because I believe this is something we should read without regard to loyalties. This is the internet folks; it is easy for things to get out of hand. Let us all do our best to not be the type of person a post like this would be directed at. .

“Listen. I cannot lurk anymore on this although I will remain anonymous. Sure I run the risk of anyone believing my relationship to the show or not. Think what you will. I could be anyone. Regardless, I thought it should be known that many of us on the cast and crew of Jericho actually read a lot of this (not only the CBS board but others with links to places like this as well as other blogs).
.
Frankly I feel concerned when I see behavior all over the place like this by someone here. Mind you, I have a busy life and I don't see it all which tells me it's probably worse than what I've seen. I'm not involved nor will I be. I will not respond. I'm just here to say I see your behavior and I do not take it lightly. Many of us are invited to Jerichon and if there are people like this attending and if there is not sufficient security there, I'm afraid I will not be willing to attend and I will encourage one person in particular not to attend because I am concerned for this person's safety.
.
I hope the fans know why we have to be cautious. It's because we see behavior like this. It's a very real concern and it's sad because we want to meet most all of you! I hope this helps make people think before they speak. We see it folks. “ -01/25/08

• When I was young my parents didn’t have a lot of money for Christmas one year. My Christmas present was a dollar bag of 100 plastic airplanes. I had a lot of fun with those planes.
.
• My favorite author is Isaac Asimov. Not only do I enjoy his fictional work I also enjoy his non-fictional work. My goal is to own every book he has written. I might need to open my own library.
.
• I have worked at the same job for over 21 years. I have gone through a change in location and a change of ownership. The company first location was the back of a former Ford dealer, the first in town. Our office was once a coal bin, which was dark and gloomy, not to mention cold in the winter. One year while watching A Christmas Carol on TV, I couldn’t help but notice how similar my working conditions were to Bob Cratchit. Bob, I know what you’re going through.
.
• I always had a fascination with airplane especially the big ones. I’m amazed that something so large can get off the ground and fly so graceful.
.
• One evening while visiting my cousins, we were given a puppy from their dog’s litter. My older brother wanted to name it Snoopy but I didn’t think the name was appropriate for a girl dog. Since my brother stayed overnight at my cousins’ house, I decided to give her a more appropriate name, Ginger. My brother didn’t seem to mind.
.
• When I was very young we visited my grandparents in the Blue Ridge Mountains. My brother and I walked up this path to the top of a hill behind my grandparents’ house and found a mobile home with no road leading to it. We were puzzled by how it got there. We later learned a helicopter placed the mobile home there. Some 10 years later, when we went to visit again, the first thing my brother and I did was walk up the hill to see if the mobile home was still there. It was.
.
• I have always wanted a Basset Hound. I just love those floppy ears and sad, mournful eyes. One Saturday morning I was looking at our local paper and saw a picture of a Basset Hound. It was found wondering the street and taken to the street department where the stray dogs are kept. After 10 days nobody had claimed it. The street department was considering keeping it as a mascot. We called the street commissioner who was a friend of the family and he agreed to let us take him. I’ll never forget the day Montgomery became a member of our family.
.
• Having been born and raised during the space program, I have had an interest in space and have become a big fan of space-based science fiction.

TEROCIOUS - 8 random things about me.
.
.
*In fourth grade I fell deeply in love with Veronica Szabo. I knew she loved me too because on Valentines Day she gave out little cards to the whole class but I was the only one to receive a purple lollipop with my valentine. I swore I would never eat it. About a week later I got really sick with a fever and delirium. I thought for sure I was going to die so I ate Veronica’s lollipop.

*I was a founding member of KITUS, a theatre company which has morphed into an excellent training facility for young and old actors. They also continue to mount daring and original performances.

*My cousin Denise trained police dogs when I was growing up. Occasionally we would be at her house visiting and two or more of her dogs would get into a spontaneous row. On one such incident I was standing right next to Cruiser, a rottweiler when he decided to go after one of the shepherds. Cruiser locked his teeth on the other and the shepherd was screaming in pain. Denise, who was on the other side of the room, pointed at the wood pile next to me and shouted “hit him”! I must have looked at her like a deer that was caught in the high beams because she slowly but still with great force enunciated “PICK UP A LOG AND HIT HIM.” I did so, only letting the split quarter of a log fall with the force of its own weight on Cruisers head. He let go of the Shepherd and shook out his head exactly like in the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Suddenly everything was back to normal. It was as if there had been no fight at all.

*I have had many dreams where everything is lit as though in full daylight but the sky is pitch black.

*When I was around twelve, and my mother and I were returning home from my aunts on the star lit back roads of rural Delaware, we saw a fireball come down from the sky and land in a field behind a stand of trees.

*I have been searching for years for just the right tool belt. A well laid out belt speeds the work and makes any project more pleasurable and productive. The one I have now is large but when worn with leather suspenders it is a well balanced and comfortable rig.

*I was lucky enough to own an Atari 800 around the time when they were first released. I was 14 years old at the time. My mother was single and I am sure she had to give up a lot to buy it for me. Thank you again Mom, I learned a lot on that machine.

*I live in a renovated 1 room schoolhouse that was built by John H. Hudson in 1883.
